Disney Dining Plan

What is the Disney Dining Plan?
The Disney Dining plan allows you to purchase all your food in advance as a package deal with your resort and tickets. With the plan, you get an allotted amount of "points" per resort guest that you can spend throughout your stay on meals and snacks. You can use your points at almost any Disney quick-service or table-service restaurants.

Your Key to the World Card is used to purchase your meals with your points. Your receipt will tell you how many points you have left. You can redeem your points in any order you choose and as many as you want to on a single day. For example, if you are staying 4 nights and you choose a plan with one snack point per day, then you will have a total of 4 snack points which can all be used on the first day if you choose. Unused points will expire on midnight of the day of your checkout.

When you purchase the plan, you generally save around 20% on the food you receive from your plan. However, you receive extras, such as desserts, drinks, resort refillable mugs and snacks on this plan. If you don't normally purchase these items, you may want to do the calculations for yourself based on where you would eat to see if the plan is really going to be worth your money.

For me, I always get the basic dining plan (one quick-service, one table-service, one snack per person per day and one refillable mug per person). I like the convenience of it and enjoy having all the extras on my vacations. I spend around the same amount on the plan as I would without the extras, so basically the 20% I'm saving just means I'm getting the extra desserts, drinks and snacks for free. Plus, we always try to go during the "Free Dining" discount. This is offered randomly throughout the year, normally for Fall dates when schools are in session, but I've seen it in Spring and Summer before as well. Disney will give you a free basic dining plan for all members of your party when you purchase full-priced room and tickets.

Quick Service Dining
This plan includes:

  • Two quick-service meals per guest per night (entree or combo meal, dessert and drink)
  • One snack per guest per night
  • One resort refillable mug per person
In my opinion, this plan is not worth the price. I would only get this plan if I was being offered this for free during the free dining discount. It costs $37.58 per adult per night. For me, I don't spend $37.58 on food if I'm just eating quick-service meals. In the parks, a quick service meal can be around $7-$11. A snack might cost $3-$5.

Dining
This plan includes:
  • One quick-service meal per guest per night
  • One table-service meal per guest per night
  • One snack per guest per night
  • One resort refillable mug per guest
For us, this plan is the most worth the price. At $55.59 per night, we feel this is reasonable. At a good table-service restaurant, you can walk out having spent $40 per adult. Combine that with the $10 for the quick service (without dessert), and $5 for your snack, that's $55 for the day. So for us, we buy the plan because we would likely spend $55 anyway, and with the plan, you get extras like desserts, drinks, and the mug.

Deluxe Dining
  • 3 table-service meals per guest per night (in addition to the entree, dessert, and drink, only deluxe dining adds in an appetizer per meal)
  • 2 snacks per guest per night
  • 1 resort refillable mug per guest per night
This is way too much food, time and money for our family. Three sit-down restaurant meals per day with a reservation appointment to each one takes too much of our time when we are at Disney World. This is for someone who isn't so worried about park time.
